Part Time Peer Specialist
PEER SPECIALIST POSITION
Setting: Crisis ER Diversion – Living Room Model. A comfortable, inviting, peer operated, after hours, “Living Room” located downtown, serving as an alternative to CPEP for those with mental health conditions who can benefit from peer support, companionship, resource linkages, immediate peer counseling, or just a place to take a pause from current stressors.
Primary Job Summary
Primary role of the Peer Specialist is to connect with, engage and orient the Living Room guest, while clarifying the current crisis and supporting the guest through the crisis. Services offered are individualized depending on the unique needs of each guest, but may include: Peer Counseling, WHAM/WRAP development, identification of goals/needs (community, skill, personal), assessment and provision of immediate resource needs (food, Shower, laundry). Offering social development opportunities, and the involvement of significant others/natural supports as appropriate.
• Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services, or related field and one (1) year of experience providing mental health services; Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related fields and two (2) years’ experience providing mental health services; or High School Diploma/GED and three (3) years’ experience.
• Completion of the peer advocacy training program. Academy of Peer Services Certification must be completed within the employees first 6 months in this position if the employee is not currently certified.
• This is a Peer position; therefore, must have lived experience with a mental health condition and possess a personal understanding of the effects a mental health condition can have on all dimensions of a person’s life.
